Summary
This 1993 Upper Deck Mike Piazza Star Rookie is a superb specimen. With an average sub-grade of 9.4, the card comfortably earns a Mint 9 grade. The centering and print quality are of Gem Mint caliber, while the minor, microscopic imperfections on the corners and surface are the only limiting factors. It remains a high-end example of one of the most iconic rookie cards of the 1990s.
Subgrades
Centering
10
The card displays elite 50/50 centering across all four borders. The framing of the black 'Upper Deck' header and the 'Star Rookie' logo is perfectly symmetrical, meeting the highest NGA standards.
Corners
9
The corners are exceptionally sharp to the naked eye. Under 10x magnification, a single microscopic touch of white is visible on the top-right corner of the reverse side, which is the only factor preventing a 10.
Edges
9
The sensitive black borders are remarkably clean. There is a singular, tiny nick on the right edge that is barely perceptible, maintaining the high-end integrity of the card's perimeter.
Surface
9
The high-gloss surface is free of major defects. A very faint, singular hairline scratch is present in the dark background area above the player's helmet, consistent with a Mint 9 designation.
Print Quality
10
The print registration is flawless. The colors are deep and saturated, and the focus on the player's jersey and face is razor-sharp with no visible print snow or ink hickeys.
